Winscombe 1sts entertained Chosen Hill at the weekend and hoped to maintain their momentum in Tribute Western Counties North after a number of significant wins in recent weeks.
The home team started the brighter and soon worked fullback Ollie Jarmen over the tryline for the opening score, Sam Dearsley adding the conversion. With Winscombe’s pack dominating the close quarters contest it was no surprise that the next score came courtesy of a driving maul finished off by prop Simon Thompson. Winscombe then stretched their lead to 19 points following the awarding of a penalty try when flanker Andy Ball was adjudged to have been lifted illegally and driven to the ground.
Gathering themselves as half time approached Chosen Hill eventually got themselves on the scoresheet with a concerted passage of play that saw them cross beneath the posts.
Playing up the Winscombe slope in the second half the home team were content to keep their visitors at bay and feed off their mistakes. Although Chosen Hill managed to score three more tries to ensure a bonus point out of the encounter, Winscombe scored a further three tries themselves through Sam Dearsley, James Flowers and Matt Truscott. Dearsley converted all three.
The bonus point win edges Winscombe nearer mid table and league safety.
