The 1st XV have their last home game of the season this weekend, with the remaining two league fixtures (to Saltash and Bideford) being away. The opposition are Wellington, making this one of only two Somerset derbies in Western Counties West. Wellington are on a roll and pushing hard for promotion, and although a minor setback last week pushed them down to 3rd they're still only two points off leaders Sidmouth. For them this will be a "must win" fixture, so what are Winscombe's chances? In recent encounters in league, cup and friendlies we've struggled, but having just won five on the bounce and strong home form this one could go either way and is bound to be a cracker. Winscombe are up to 7th but not yet sure of survival and will also be looking for the win. Entry is free and KO is 2.30pm.
Naturally we expect a big home crowd, and the pitchside bar will be open from 13.30. There are no games for the 2nds or the 3rds, nor the U18s, although the U17s split from the Colts and join with the U16s to form a "Junior Colts" team to take on Weston under lights at their place in anticipation of next season. KO is 7pm.
Sunday is Mothering Sunday so many teams are cancelling for the day (which is just as well, as the clocks also go forward). The U13s are home to Walcot, the U14s away to Hornets, and in the afternoon the U15s girls are away to Cullompton. Otherwise Sunday is quiet.
So, if you're not doing much on Sunday, why not come to the Winscombe RFC Quiz Night? Get to the club for 7pm and grab a table.
